We are very thankful that the political conflicts
in our recent past are behind us. But, even during those
difficult times, the town of Antigua was well-known as a safe
and secure place to visit and now, more than ever, everyone
feels free to roam around the countryside and take trips on
the inexpensive people's buses to remote villages. Although
there are areas in Guatemala City that can be unsafe (as in
all large cities, travellers must take care), all cities and
towns outside of Guatemala City are safe for
tourists.
